Understanding Youth Suicide & Effective Prevention, Intervention, & Postvention Strategies

Thursday, March 11, 9:00 am-1:00 pm PT: Join the California School-Based Health Alliance and the Regional Educational Laboratory West for a free virtual event to provide Central Valley educators and health and mental health practitioners with skills and guidance to prevent suicide among children and youth in the region. Register now.

With recent increases in depression and suicidal ideation among young people in the Central Valley, this event is designed to support youth-serving adults as they work in the current context of an ongoing pandemic, social unrest, and isolation. Learn from state and local leaders who will share practical information and resources for understanding, responding to, and preventing youth suicide.

Participants will: 

• Hear about research on the causes, consequences, and rates of youth suicide
• Learn practical, evidence-based strategies for youth suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention
• Be introduced to Central Valley and state resources for youth suicide prevention, including through the California Department of Education

Featured speakers will include:

• Stan Collins, Suicide Prevention Specialist, co-founder of Directing Change Program and Film Contest, and co-author of “Know the Signs” training resource guide
• Dr. Sidra Goldman-Mellor, Assistant Professor of Public Health, UC Merced
• Student members of Fresno’s Central High School-East NAMI on Campus Club
