SUMMARY:Understanding Boys and Young Men: A Webinar For Caretakers and Educators
DESCRIPTION:Date & Time: Jun 25\, 2026\, 09:00 AM in Pacific Time (US and Canada)\n\n\nDuration: 45 Minutes\n\n\nDescription\nBoys don’t always show emotional distress in ways that adults recognize. It can look like anger\, withdrawal\, endless gaming sessions\, or not wanting to talk right now. Sometimes that’s just adolescence. But sometimes it’s something more. Dr. Katie Hurley\, JED’s Vice President of Community Initiatives and author of Breaking the Boy Code: The New Playbook For Raising Resilient Boys\, joins Ryan Bunts\, Senior Director of High School Programs\, to discuss why so many boys and young men struggle to talk about what they’re feeling\, and how adults can stay connected without turning every conversation into an interrogation. You’ll learn: – What emotional struggle tends to look like for boys\, including the signals adults often overlook – How gaming\, influencer culture\, and social isolation are reshaping boys’ inner lives – Practical tips for building trust\, starting conversations\, and staying connected Meet the Panel: – Dr. Katie Hurley\, DSW\, LCSW\, VP\, Community Initiatives – Ryan Bunts\, Senior Director\, High School Programs – Moderated by Tony Walker\, Ph.D.\, Senior Vice President\, School Programs and Consulting

SUMMARY:Suicide Prevention Efforts for Veterans and Service Members - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:CDPH Office of Suicide Prevention (OSP) Community of Practice Webinar\n\n\n\n\n\nDate & Time\nDec 11\, 2025 01:00 PM in Pacific Time (US and Canada)\n\n\nDescription\nThe California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Office of Suicide Prevention (OSP) is excited to continue hosting our Community of Practice webinar series. The purpose of these meetings is to bring together our OSP partners to connect\, collaborate\, share\, and learn from one another’s successes and challenges working on suicide prevention efforts at the local and state level. For the December OSP Community of Practice\, we will highlight suicide prevention efforts for Veterans and Service Members. This webinar will feature a presentation from Dr. Mike Anestis\, Executive Director of the New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center and professor at Rutgers School of Public Health. Dr. Anestis will discuss the various ways in which messaging can play an important role in facilitating secure firearm storage and suicide prevention for Veterans and Service Members. Leveraging recent research findings\, Dr. Anestis will discuss communication at the public health\, community\, and individual level\, highlighting important considerations regarding trusted messengers\, effective message content\, and impactful message delivery channels. The presentation will demonstrate that even the most powerful prevention tools will lose their value if they are presented in the wrong place\, in the wrong way\, or by the wrong people. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of existing national resources to facilitate firearm suicide prevention both within and beyond veteran communities. Additionally\, Dr. Jonah Cox\, with the CDPH Office of Suicide Prevention\, will provide a brief overview of 2023 Veteran suicide data in California and the OSP program team will spotlight local suicide prevention efforts for Veterans.
